Does the Bible support the Death Penalty

When it comes to the death penalty,  I don't think the Bible is against it at all.  Of course, when we look at the spiritual side, this is talking directly to God's command that there be no killing within the body of believers (Ex 20:13).  When the Church spiritually kills the Elect, then God sheds their blood as well in the judgment process. However God gives us the Bible so that both the spiritual and the moral can be in view depending on the verse. Consider the following:

Ge 9:6  Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Re 13:10  He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

The Bible also tells us that God allows those in power to execute judgment. This, too, has a spiritual side, but the moral aspect is also in view:

Ro 13:3  For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

Ro 13:4  For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Ex 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Ex 21:23  And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

Ex 21:24  Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

Ex 21:25  Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Bottom line is God allows the Government to establish laws and provides the necessary weapon to accomplish its purpose. This would include laws of the death penalty. To the extent the Government is clearly not engaging in anything sinful, then the law of the land applies as far as the Bible is concerned.

Lu 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

Mr 12:17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.
