What does it mean to FAST?
Many people think of fasting as praying and staying away from food. But the Bible defines Fasting as sharing bread (Gospel) with the spiritually hungry so as to cover their spiritual nakedness (become saved). To physically abstain from food has no spiritual significance as far as we can tell from the Bible:

  • Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?  Isaiah 58:6
  • Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?  Isaiah 58:7

...Come out of her

my people... (Rev 18:4)

Bible FAQs What about the hungry and politics?
What about the hungry and politics? PDF Print E-mail

Churches can have a concern for the hungry and who becomes the next president since believers should pray for those in authority. However, a church's primary concern should be to bring the Gospel to a lost world. God provides for the other things according to His will. The Gospel is concerned with the spiritually hungry and being fit for life eternal:

  • And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
  • For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12
