When is the Last Day?

When we read about the Last Day in the Bible, we have the tendency, again, of automatically looking to a final day of the existence of the world. However, if we take some time to analyze how the Bible defines the phrase last day, we'll find that the primary meaning is focusing on our day when God is judging the corporate body in this time of tribulation. The common words last day we'll look at here are the following: Last <2078> is the Greek word eschatos and Day <2250> is the Greek hemera; which, by the way, is the same word used in talking about the Day of the Lord.

  • Ac 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days <2078> <2250>, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
  • 2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days <2078> <2250> perilous times shall come.
  • Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days <2078> <2250> spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
  • Jas 5:3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days <2078> <2250>.
  • 2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days <2078> <2250> scoffers, walking after their own lusts.
  • Joh 6:39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day <2078> <2250>.
  • Joh 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day <2078> <2250>.
  • Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day <2078> <2250>.
  • Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day <2078> <2250>.
  • Joh 7:37 In the last day <2078> <2250>, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst let him come unto me, and drink.
  • Joh 11:24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day <2078> <2250>..
  • Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day <2078> <2250>.

40 and two months is not a literal number. It is half of seven and the tribulation of 23 years (1988 to 2011) is spiritually referred to as seven years. Therefore 42 months or 1260 days (42 x 30) or 3.5 days (42 / 12) is focusing on half of the tribulation period. During the first half (2300 days), the true believers were killed (put out of the churches). The other half of seven (6100 literal days) Judgment continues on the rest of the corporate body. Hope this helps.
